Faith in Trying Times
I am so glad that I know that God hears my prayers, and if I ask anything in accordance with His will, He will grant it. So many things today seem to be beyond my control. I look at the things that are happening in the U.S., trying to make sense of it. I cannot understand why certain things happen; however, I know who does and I know who can fix them. I believe in the power of prayer. I also believe that when two or three pray together there is the presence of the Lord. The Scripture says this: (Matthew 18:20).
God has given free will to man. Man, in his fallen state and separated from God, can and often use this free will to the detriment of others. The love of money, more than God, is said in the Bible to be the root of all evil. A person who spends their entire life focused on amassing a fortune, more than they need in a lifetime, and never seeks God is acting foolishly. First, money does not create peace and the second fact is time spent on earth does not compare to eternity.
I have learned to celebrate small victories. A few days ago, I asked for prayer for a little boy who was taken into ICE custody and was being held with his father in a detention center. He had been described as looking pale and seeming to be declining in health. Today, I found out that a judge has ruled that he and his father should be released no later than February 3rd. I know that God answered that prayer. We know how Jesus feels about little children. He said that we need to become more like them. I knew that if my heart was so broken for that little boy, Jesus’ heart must have been touched by his plight as well.
The Bible tells us that we, the born-again church of God, are the light of the world. One thing we know about light is that it dispels darkness. This means that no darkness can overcome that which Christ shines His light upon. We are told to redeem the time, for the days are evil. We who know the Lord, can call upon Him in our time of need. We can intercede for others and pray for God’s will to be done on the earth.
