The bible tells us that the “law” which the ten commandments are, is our schoolmaster. It is the way that we know, for sure, that we have fallen short of how God wants us to live, and need to be forgiven of our sins. The 10 commandments, however, are still relevant in terms of letting us know the things that God considers to be sinful. Jesus spoke of fulfilling the law. In other words, He is the only person who was capable of living a sin free life. Just as the sacrifices in the Old Testament for the covering of sins had to be of a perfect animal; Jesus who was the sacrifice for our sins, had to be without blemish. The ten commandments remain a good point of reference to see how we are supposed to live. Even though we are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, God is looking for hearts that want to live a life that is pleasing to Him.
Mark 7: 8-13 “ You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to human traditions.”
9 And he continued, “You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! 10 For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and mother,” and, ‘Anyone who curses their father or mother is to be put to death.’ 11 But you say that if anyone declares that what might have been used to help their father or mother is Corban (that is, devoted to God) 12 then you no longer let them do anything for their father or mother. 13 Thus you nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down. And you do many things like that.”
The above scriptures contain the spoken words of Jesus. He was reaffirming the place of the ten commandments in the lives of those with ears to hear.
The bible also tells us that there will be certain behaviors that will be signs of the last days 2 Timothy 3:2-4 2 For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, 4 traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,” We can certainly witness these behaviors in the world today. Unfortunately, those who are lost will continue to be led down the wrong path with even more opportunities and ways to sin.
Prayer is the way to bring God into, not only our personal circumstances, but the things that are impacting the world. We have read the end of the book, Jesus wins 😊
