1 Peter 2:2 “as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby,”
As born-again Christians we should be growing spiritually. We start out as spiritual babies, then as we read the word and are taught the word by those who are called to do so, we should grow spiritually. If we are the same people we were when we first became born-again; if we still think and behave the same way we did, we are not growing spiritually.
It is not good enough just to hear the word, we must apply the word to our lives with the help of the Holy Spirit. It first starts with a heart’s desire to be who God wants us to be. A desire to be more like Jesus. A desire to learn how to love God and our fellow man. Imagine a world where people truly loved others as they loved themselves. It would be a taste of heaven.
If I love you as I love myself, I will not be jealous or envious of you; instead, I will rejoice in your successes. I will not have a desire to steal from you for I will equate what you have with having it myself. There is so much wisdom in God’s words as shared with us in the bible. It is the User’s Manual for how humans should live.
I was listening to a Christian program on tv this morning when it was stated that only 4% of Christians have a biblical worldview. In other words, only 4% view the world through the lens of the bible. Yet the bible itself tells us that we should not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2). Being popular cannot be our main priority if we wish to live a life dedicated to God. Jesus told us that if they hate Him, they will also hate those who follow Him.
Yet, a life dedicated to the things of God, dedicated to growing in and following God, is much more rewarding than any other. It will be a life filled with peace in the midst of trials. A life with supernatural occurrences that cannot be explained in the natural world. A life where God, through the Holy Spirit, leads and guides into green pastures and still waters. It will be a taste of what is to come when we spend eternity in the presence of the Lord.
