Proverbs 10:22 The blessing of the LORD makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it.
Why does the verse above say, “and He adds no sorrow with it”? Can riches bring about sorrow? It can if it is not managed properly. I heard a story of a man who won millions in the lottery. He was not very educated, just a regular guy who had come into a fortune. He was almost immediately befriended by a young lady who portrayed herself as someone who wanted to help and protect him. After a while the young man went missing. Several months later his body was found in a backyard grave. She was later convicted of his murder.
Proverbs 19:4 “Wealth makes many friends, But the poor is separated from his friend.” Isn’t it amazing how the bible deals with our everyday issues? A wealthy person attracts many people. Some of these people will be opportunists trying to see how much money they may be able to get, while pretending to be a friend.
When God gives wealth; He is able to supply the wisdom needed to manage it. The Holy Spirit will lead and guide that individual in how the wealth should be used. He will warn of those who have evil intent. If and when we become wealthy, there is a very strong need to be led by the Holy Spirit. There is a saying “a fool and his money are soon parted”. There was even a popular tv series called “the curse of the lottery”. While winning the lottery may not be a curse in and of itself, mismanagement of the funds won, can result in dire consequences.
The bible tells us when God gives wealth not only will there be no dire consequences, but it will also be a blessing to the one who has it and can be used for the work of the kingdom and to help those who are in need.
