Today, is the day that Martin Luther King, Jr’s birthday is celebrated. We all know, at least in part, the work he did to champion racial equality. He came from a place of non-violence and faith in God.
I perceive that with each new generation, however, the number of people who are racist is declining. I am amazed by people who are racist against Jews yet claim to love Jesus; who we know was Jewish by descent. Not only was He Jewish by descent but He was also God in the flesh. So, if a person says they hate Jews, they are saying they hate God, as well.
The bible tells us that man judges by outward appearance, but God looks at the heart (1 Samuel 16:7). Many of us have been guilty of this. We think we know more about a person based on their outward appearance, than there is the ability to know. I believe the fact that Obama was voted president shows a great decline in racism. In order for Obama to become president, many people of many different races had to vote for him. They voted for him not once but twice. True, he is half-white, but he was classified as black. We can see the strides that have been made towards racial equality. Looking back at where this country came from, it has been major.
While there will probably always be those who choose a racist path, we see that a large percentage of the country is moving away from this. Thank God for progress…and we know that where God rules, in heaven, there will be no racism.
