Proverbs 17:22 A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.
This morning as I do every morning when I have to write my blog, I asked God what I should write about. I feel that there are so many things to be sad about. There is war, there are rumors of war, just as Jesus said there would be in the last days.
We are told, however, to focus on the positive things. Philippians 4:8 “Finally brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.” This is the mindset He wants us to have.
Whatsoever things are true: Jesus loves us, Jesus died for us, we are heaven bound, our sins are forgiven, our prayers are being answered. If there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things. We can sometimes get stuck on the negative thing in our circumstances, to the exclusion of all the positive. When we do this, it robs us of our peace, it robs us of our joy. It is important to have a positive mindset. When we think of our future, we should picture it as being positive. We should believe that our best days are ahead of us.
With a positive mindset, it is possible to find things to laugh about. A merry heart is good medicine. Laughter is in my families DNA. My children and I laugh a lot. I am sure that is one of the reasons why we get along so well. We also genuinely love each other. My nieces and nephews also have this laughter gene 😊 I remember when my mother was going to the hospital for the last time, on her way in, we had to tell her to stop laughing, or they would not take her illness seriously. I was even unaware of just how sick she was. The night before she died, she was speaking and laughing on the phone with my ex-husband. She asked me to come back and see her that night. I had a water-main break in my house and told her I would be there first thing in the morning. She died 3:00 am that morning. I knew she was in a better place; she had accepted Jesus and was born again. She had suffered from many different illnesses throughout the years, yet you could never tell by her attitude and outlook on life.
Try to find the humor in things. Remember, whether you laugh or cry, it will not change the matter, it will only change how you feel. Find opportunities to laugh.
