Matthew 1:25 But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.
Why do Christians teach their children about Santa? He is the world’s substitute for Jesus. Plus, we are lying to our children when we tell them he comes down the chimney and brings gifts. Children have an innocence that allows them to believe what we tell them. This means, if we teach them the true meaning of Christmas…If we tell them of His miraculous birth and His sacrifice for our sins, they have the child-like faith to believe.
Santa is based on works. If you are good you will get gifts. If you are bad you will not. The gospel of Jesus is receiving by faith. Instead of writing letters to Santa we could be teaching our children to pray to God for the things they need and want. When they receive them, they will know to give credit to God and not to Santa.
My parents did not teach me the Santa myth. I do remember, however, my mother taking me to see a store Santa when I was very young. I was so scared. He seemed like an alien. I remember being struck by how fluffy his fake beard was. I also thought he was massive. I could hardly wait for the ordeal to be over 😊
I also have thought of the fact that if I lie to my children, by telling them about Santa bringing them presents; they will find out, when they get older, that I lied to them. If I lied to them about Santa, in their mind, they may start wondering what else I may have lied to them about. Also, we need to teach our children at an early age that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). Children who are focused on Santa bringing them gifts, are not thinking about what they can give to others.
Is it just coincidence that the same letters that spell Santa also spell satan? We know that his mission is to steal, kill, and destroy. We know that he does not want Jesus to be lifted up in the earth. Santa steals the attention away from Jesus. A child who is believing that Santa is the focus of Christmas, is missing out on the spiritual blessings that belief in Christ can bring.
We are admonished in the bible to train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6) While we have the opportunity, let’s teach our children about our Lord so they may be rooted and grounded in Him.
Have a blessed Christmas and a New Year overflowing with God’s richest blessings.
