Proverbs 13:12 Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a dream fulfilled is a tree of life.
I recently heard on the news of the death of a famous individual whose nickname was “Twitch”. He was a constant on the Ellen DeGeneres show. He was famous for his dancing skills. He also appeared on many shows that involved dancing.
Looking from the outside, it seemed that he had a great life. He was married for several years and had 3 children. However, we know that material possessions, fame, family, friends cannot fill the God shaped hole we all are born with, inside. The world will not give us peace, only God can do that. Inner peace is to be cherished above all other states of mind. Not only does the Holy Spirit gives us peace, He also gives us joy that is not dependent on what is going on in the world.
It is being reported that “Twitch” took his own life. In every instance that I have seen pictures of him, he seemed to be smiling. People are shocked to think that he was not happy. There are no clear reasons as to why he would want to end his life. I know, however, that when we are faced with life challenges that seem insurmountable, we who know God can exercise faith and have hope that God will turn things around.
We know that there is a power beyond our own that is able to make things right. A power that is capable of making good come out of circumstances that seem dire. We have the assurance that we can go to God in prayer to find help in a time of need. This is a hope that many in the unsaved world do not have, because they do not know God. We know that suicide is never an option. It is a mistake that cannot be corrected. Satan likes to dispense despair and a feeling that things will never get better. His mission is to steal, kill and destroy. He will plant in our minds the thought that there is no hope. He wants us to feel that God does not care, and we are without hope. He is a liar and will one day get his just deserts.
Many people get depressed around the holidays. They think that everyone else is having a great time and they are the exception. We all have much to be thankful for and when we focus on being thankful, satan cannot bring us down. Today, and every day, God is on the throne and prayer moves God.
