Matthew 7:7-8 (KJV)
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
There are many verses in the bible that speak of God’s provision for His children. We can stand on these verses and release God’s blessings in our lives, through faith. The above verses indicate that sometimes we have a part to play in the release of these blessings. Sometimes we have to seek and sometimes we may be required to knock. When God told me to purchase a house, I had to go seeking for that house. I had to let the Holy Spirit lead me in what direction I should go. Once I knocked on the right doors, they opened for me.
Sometimes God may use us to answer someone’s prayers. I listened to Andrew Wommack speak on how the worst times in the lives of him and his wife were caused by someone not listening to God. He told of going without food for several days. He had no money to buy food. Several days into this, a woman reached out to him to offer him some money. She told him that the Lord had told her several weeks prior to give him the money but she had waited to do so. This happened to him on more than one occasion; where someone delayed helping him even though God had told them to, sometime prior. The time they delayed, created a great hardship for him.
I lived many years as a single (divorced) parent dependent on God for provision. One of the worst periods I went through was when an employer refused to pay me what I had earned. It was less than $200 but because I was living paycheck to paycheck it almost caused my family to go without food. I remember going to the Dollar Store to purchase packages of hamburger meat. I also bought some spaghetti sauce and some pasta. Fortunately, I know how to cook. I was able for a few days to make dinner for my entire family for less than $5 per meal. We had peanut butter sandwiches for lunch. I remember taking them to my new job for a couple of weeks, until my next paycheck.
Maybe my own experiences as a single parent has made me sensitive to the needs of those who are in the same position today. My family and I recently set-up a non-profit with the main goal of helping single parents and their children. Our goal is to be led of the Lord as to those He wants us to help. We will be sure to let them know that it comes from God, and hope to lead those who do not know Him into having a relationship with Him.
Whenever God tells us to help someone, it is imperative that we do so, as directed. We may be the only avenue for them to get the help they need, immediately.
