2 Chronicles 7:14 “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
Most of us are familiar with the above scripture. As God promised Israel, He is promising the U.S. today. There are several important components to this scripture: First, it is directed to God’s people. God’s people today are the church. Those who have been taken from darkness into light. One of the most important things we have to learn to do, once we are born again, is learn how to hear from God. It is God’s will for us to be able to hear His voice…To be able to receive instructions from the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
Being led by the Holy Spirit, requires surrendering to the will of God. We must put God’s will above our own. When we come to know without any doubt that God wants only the best for us, we will find it easier to surrender to His will. God wants to bless the U.S. where so many of His children live, so we can live peaceful, abundant lives.
With the upcoming midterm elections, we need God’s guidance to determine how to vote. God is the only one who can see the heart of a person; to see the motivation behind the words. When we come to God free from biases and preconceived ideas, He will tell us how to vote. There is so much disinformation in the news and social media, that we need discernment in order to know if we are hearing the truth. One source of truth that is undeniable is the bible. If we govern ourselves according to its teachings, we will walk in truth and in God’s will.
The scripture says that we must humble ourselves, pray and seek God’s face. When we approach God in humility, we are saying God we recognize that you are wiser than we are. We recognize that your will is the best way. We recognize that you can see the future. Let us not have a cult personality. A cult personality is one that follows blindly a person or group of people despite all the evidence that shows they should not be followed. The only person we should follow without question is God.
The democracy of the U.S. is built upon the power of the vote. So, voting is a privilege and not something that should be taken lightly. Let us pray and seek God’s guidance before we cast ours.
