Someone once said, “It is not because we have been so good but because He has been so merciful.”
For many people, Friday signals the end of the work week…It is often pay day. That accounts for the well known saying TGIF. Well, we should be thankful for every day we spend knowing God and living in His kingdom. We can look back over the past week and see that He has brought us through all that the world has thrown at us. He protected us from dangers seen and unseen. We had shelter and food on our tables. Some even had extra money in the bank.
Wednesday, my daughter who usually works from home, four days a week, went into the office to work. We often speak about how much better working from home is. A change brought about by the pandemic. She can keep more money by saving on gas and tolls. Her car is worth more money because it has been driven less.
Wednesday, however, there was a significant occurrence. We did what we usually do on Wednesdays, when she leaves the office. We talked about doing take-out for dinner. We discussed it at length on the phone but kept feeling that something was wrong with each choice we made. She works in an area where there are many restaurants offering take-out options. She finally drove out of the area, heading home. Then she thought of another restaurant that would take her out of the way and add significantly to her travel time. We both agreed that we felt she should go there.
Going to that restaurant instead of one in her area added at least 20 minutes to her travel time. She got back on the turnpike and proceeded to her exit. When she got there, she saw what appeared to be an, at least, 5 car pile-up. There were injured people laying and sitting on the ground. In all the years that she has driven that route she had never witnessed anything like it. It was so recent that the police had not yet arrived. It seemed that someone at high speed had run into the back of one of the line of cars that was exiting and pushed one into the other, in the line.
We prayed for the people involved. We also realized that she could have been in that exit line when the accident occurred. This is how God protects us. This time we had tangible proof of it. Sometimes we do not know that it has occurred. The bible tells us that all things work together for our good. Many times, we do not understand why things happen the way they do, however, by faith, we can stand strong in the knowledge that our Heavenly Father is always at work for our good.
