Everyone in America has an opinion on the present state of the government. Some people have come by their opinion by diligently researching and following reliable news sources; some have made up their minds a long time ago regarding how to align themselves, no matter what happens. The best way to deal with the present state of the country is to look at it through a spiritual/biblical lens. By looking at things through this lens we can have hope for a better future.
What does the bible say: 1 Timothy 2:1-4. “First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.”
The bible admonishes us to pray for those in places of authority including the president. We can pray that the people who are in a position to make decisions that impact our lives have the wisdom and courage to make the right decisions. We must also pray that they have the right mindset towards the country. A mindset that puts the good of the country before their own political ambitions.
The bible tells us that the prayers of a righteous man avails much (James 5:16). Who is a righteous man? Anyone who is born again and clothed in the righteousness of Christ. Therefore, we are not without hope. It is easy to succumb to the thought that everything is going downhill. However, it has been my experience that God can make good come out of the direst of circumstances. No matter who is in the place of power on the earth, God has superior power. He is moved by our prayers and not by our complaints.
I encourage you to not give way to despair. Do not live your life in anxiety and fear. For God has not given us a Spirit of fear but of power of love and of a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). When we bring the things that trouble us to God in prayer and leave them there, we have put ourselves in a position to experience God’s supernatural peace. May you experience this peace as you stand in faith trusting God for answered prayers.
